Common questions
How do I add music?
Tap Scan to photograph pages with the camera, or Import to choose PDFs and photos from the Files app, including iCloud Drive and Google Drive. You can import a whole folder at once.
The names it chose are wrong.
Check each name on the review screen before you save, and fix any that are off. Impresario remembers your corrections and uses them the next time it reads the same thing. You can also rename or move a saved part later, and apply a change to a whole song.
An import from Google Drive or iCloud Drive is slow or stuck.
Files kept in the cloud have to download to your iPad first. Open the Files app and tap the file once so it downloads, then import it again. Very large PDFs use a lot of memory, so try a smaller file or import a few at a time. You can cancel an import at any point, and nothing is saved.
My page turner does not work.
Pair it in your iPad’s Settings, under Bluetooth. It needs to act as a keyboard that sends the left and right arrow keys. Many pedals call this a keyboard or arrow-key mode, often Mode 2. Then open a part and press the pedal.
The camera or microphone is turned off.
Open the iPad’s Settings app, tap Impresario, and switch Camera or Microphone on. The camera is used for scanning. The microphone is used only by the tuner, and nothing it hears is recorded.
How do I use the tuner?
Tap the metronome icon to open the practice tools, then choose Tuner. Pick your instrument, tap Start tuning, and play.
- Strings and guitars light up the open string you are closest to.
- Clarinets, saxophones, horns and other transposing instruments show the note you play. A switch shows the pitch that sounds instead.
- Concert A runs from 392 to 466 Hz. Choose equal temperament, just intonation or a Baroque temperament.
- Stop any reference tones before you tune, or the tuner will hear them.
How do I choose a metronome sound?
Open the practice tools and choose Metronome, then pick a sound under Sound. Tap a sound while the metronome is stopped to hear it.
Where is my library, and how do I sync it?
Parts are saved in the Impresario folder in the Files app, on your iPad, or in a folder you choose in the app’s Settings. If you choose a folder in iCloud Drive, your parts, markings and settings sync between your devices.
How do I back up or restore my library?
In the app’s Settings, choose “Copy everything to a Files folder…” to make a backup that includes your markings. To bring a backup back, choose “Restore from a backup folder…”.
How do markings and layers work?
Tap the pencil to mark a part. Markings are kept in layers, such as your own, a teacher’s or a section’s. You can show or hide each layer, and share one layer as a file that someone with the same PDF can import.
Does Impresario include any music?
No. Impresario contains no music. Only scan, import or share music you own or have the right to copy, and follow your school’s and your publishers’ licenses.
How do I delete my data?
Delete a part inside the app, or delete the app to remove its own copy of your library. Anything saved in a folder you chose in Files, including iCloud Drive, stays there until you delete it.
